Dear Michelle,
Your dad may be correct as there are certainly lots of Gills in Yorkshire!
If you try www.Wharfegen.org.uk/ you will find "The Gills of Fewson" family
page with lots of links.
I too am interested in Gills in Cheshire as my GGGrandfather John Gill SHAW
was born in Chester in 1813. As three of his sons were given Gill as a
second name, I am assuming there must be some strong connections between the
SHAWs and GILLs. Perhaps someone out there is aware of such a connection
and could help.
John Gill Shaw's father and grandfather were also born in Cheshire but I can
find no earlier connection with the Gills.
Copied to the list in hope.
Sincerely,
Dr Doug Shaw
