Hi Tony

I have ancestors who came from Ireland in the mid 1800s, they settled
eventually in Macclesfield, we believe they came from Ballymoe, Roscommon:

Hi
Still trying to track down the Kelly and Callaghan /s of Northwich.
particularly where they came from in Ireland

I understand that the catholic population (presumably mainly Irish) of
Northwich rose from about 40 in 1840 to over 1500 in 1852. Something must
have attracted them.

Did they come generally from the same areas of Ireland? Was this local
influx organised?

I understand that there were huts/barns at Prescot and possibly Warrington
for itinerant Irish to over night in, presumably they did not have the cash
for the toll ferry at Runcorn.

Any comments or ideas most welcome.

Regards
Tony Barratt
