Many thanks to all who replied to my request about whether they remembered
drinking milk before the advent of mass commercialisation and chemicals. If
anyone else has anything to say about Milk please reply off-list to
.
The reason I asked the question was to do with genealogy and not to start
any gastronomic debates (I had enough of that when I asked the Derbyshire
List whether a book on The History of Alstonefield was still available in
the famous Hartington Cheese Shop: I had dozens of emails praising the
variety of cheeses in the shop and urging me to try this or that cheese, but
none about the book).
My interest in milk is a deadly serious one has has to do with almost all
the farmers who produced it around Manchester and Cheshire during the last
hundred years.
Thanks again.

RESEARCHING: Northen Etchells (Wythenshawe) and keen on finding information about SHENTON, SWAN, BRUNT, WARDLE, BOWLER, NEEDHAM, BAYLEY and PIMLOTT (circa 1800-1960) and other farming families from Hartington and Alstonefield areas who moved North to Cheshire & Manchester in the 1840s.
