My tip to use the 1901 census decoder is to search for your ancestor then:
Save your searches, then view your saved search.
Then sort by County Place
You should see a number of people in the same area.
Save this file to EXCEL or any of the other formats.
Open your Excel file
Do a Sort by:-
1 Census Place
2 Age
3 Page ID.
After this, expand the Page ID column and you will see a long list of
letters and numbers. Some of them will be the same page id. This will work
for some of that household, but others may have another number also.
I did this with my FOXLEY family who have been transcribed as FAXLEY, except
for the head of household who was correctly transcribed. However the PRO
have been informed of this mistranscription in 2002-2003 and have still not
amended it!!!. Say no more.
It's not perfect but as I had already done this search, before the PRO
started with their measures to make our searches harder, I was able to
compare the files.
Hope this helps
Wendy
