The reference is to a National Archives document (formerly the Public
Record Office - that's the PRO bit) but who has filmed it I do not know.
Probably the Mormons.
The Piece number is the specific document within the class, and if that
piece is bulky, the "folio" is the section within it where the reference
is to be found. In other cases this might not be a folio but a page or
a box number depending on the contents of the class and the extent to
which it has been calendared.
Thus C11/2456/24 is a document in one of the classes (C11) of Chancery
Proceedings held at TNA (PRO) Kew. Piece 2456 is a roll of parchment
pleadings and number 24 is in fact 2 related membranes in an 18th
century dispute: the Bill and its Answer.
CHES16/29 (Pt1) is also a legal dispute in the old PRO, this time in the
class of Cheshire Palatinate Proceedings (CHES16). Piece 29 is all the
various pleadings in a law term in 1619 and in this case they are held
in several boxes. This reference is to the 1st box, and this class is
not fully calendared so you just have to plough through the boxfull of
documents to find the one you want.
I hope these examples help.
