My name is Peter Dawson & I live in sunny South Africa, my dad was in
the RAF & posted here in 1940 as part of the Joint Air Training Scheme. My
Mom, sister & myself arrived in 1942 & we have been here ever since.
I am researching part of my Mom's maternal family, They were found by
the kind listers of Lancs on the 1861 census of Leigh in Lancs, but they
disappeared after that & in my search a very kind lady gave me a clue in
Cheshire, I will first describe the family as I have it.
1861 Census of West Leigh in the hamlet of Westleigh Mile in Lancs.
RG9/2802/78 pg 5.
Michael KELLY age 26 Coal Miner born in Ireland.
Winifred KELLY age 26 Frame Tender in cotton mill born in Ireland
Mary KELLY age 4 born Pennington Leigh Lancs.
The clue I have is in 1871 a Winifred KELLY age 38 born Ireland a servant in
Cheadle Bulkeley Cheshire.
Could some kind soul please do a look up of Cheadle for Winifred & if
Michael [now 36] & Mary [now 14] are not with her a look for them as well, a
scan of the census sheets sent to me will be gratefully acknowledged.
Have a lovely evening,
Peter in Gauteng South Africa, where the gold comes from, sorry no free
