Hi Listers who have canal boat (especially narrow-boat) connections.

The Runcorn Weekly News printed two articles this week about canal boats:-

The National Waterways Festival is to be held along the banks of the
Bridgewater Canal at PRESTON BROOK, Cheshire UK. during the bank holiday
August 27 to 29th.
More than 500 boats are expected, coming from all over the country.
Waterways crafts and boat maintenance workshops will be there, as well as
other entertainments.
The theme is 'Alice in Wonderland' brought to life by the Lewis Carroll
Society and Daresbury Church members.

Sue Day, the Chairwoman of 'The Horse-boating Society' was given permission
to take a narrow boat through the three tunnels en route to the festival.by
'legging it'
The tunnels are too narrow to have a tow path so the horse has to go round
the outside and the boat is propelled along the canal by two crew members
lying on the deck and 'walking' along the wall of the tunnel.
There is a picture accompanying the article showing this manoeuvre with Sue
at the tiller and Chris Caplin demonstrating the technique as the boat is
'legged' through the Dutton to Preston Brook Tunnel.
There is a website for the festival at:-

Doreen Kenwright.
