Hi Peter, Have you any idea if there is an easier way to find the page
needed other than having to browse through it all. I would like to thank
you for posting info about 1841 being on line, just found ggggrand
parents.Regards Jean

Thanks for your message Jean, and apologies for the tardy reply - but my
wife and I were well enough to actually visit Chester this last week
including, of course, the Record Office! And I'm SO glad you've found your
gx3 grandparents.
I'm afraid I don't know of any way to discover the page number for the
Census other than browsing through the District. As far as I know - and I
stand to be corrected on this as usual <vbg> - , the Census reference
numbers have four parts:
HO 107 - being the Home Office number for the event of the 1841 Census
(changed to RG for Registrar General in subsequent censuses).
117 - being the piece number for Nantwich (the town in which I happen to be
interested) - and which is the film number used by Stepping Stones
1 - which is the Enumeration District within Nantwich, the details of which
are to be found at the beginning of this part of the film
4 - which is the page number within that Enumeration District covering part
of Hospital Street.
I hope that (a) this is correct, and (b) just might be helpful.
All good wishes
Peter
