Hi John,
A little more background for you.
George Sturla & Sons also had a large, two floor, shop in Birkenhead which
has long since been demolished. If my childhood memory serves me correctly
it was around what is now the Borough Road/Argyle Street junction.
As Wendy has said they were general drapers and sold clothes and household
linens and other items. They also had a very large van, huge for the 1950s,
which regularly toured the smaller villages of the area to enable people who
could not get into the shop to purchase goods. I know this because an
elderly aunt always bought her sheets and blankets from them.
