I to was brought up in St.Helens...... there were many Mellors I went
to school with in the 60s .... did you have any relatives at Cowley Boys ???
I guess I,m not Lancastrian having spent 33 years in Australia !!!

I was born and brought up in St Helens, which was tragically changed from
the county of Lancashire to the county of Merseyside in the 1970's. I do now

and will always consider myself to be a Lancastrian.

More power to your mothers elbow David. Once she left "Manchester" and
crossed the Mersey she knew she was in Cheshire and always will be. Just
because some wally 200 miles away in London decided it would be easier for
administration purposes if we were allowed to make our own decisions locally
and gave each district a new name doesn't mean we are not still in Cheshire.
