Hi Joanna
I subscribed to Ancestry.com last summer - after much worrying about whether it was the right thing to do - was it too expensive etc etc etc. As soon as I started using it I realized it was the best $200 US I had ever spent.
They added the 1851 census last year and are talking about 1841 for 2006. There is a wealth of information there and I find it very easy to use. My family information is in Family Tree Maker and you can link straight to Ancestry from your software if you want to research a particular name, or you can use it separately. I have saved many copies of the original census forms in folders in 'my documents' and have copied & pasted other census and VRI data (and more) into the 'notes' section of the individuals in my tree.
I even found my elusive great-grandmother in 1851 working as a servant at Crewood Hall.
I think you will find it beneficial. I know I'm planning to renew my subscription this year.
