Yes, Cheshire-L is a marvellous list for its helpful members and even more
so for the steady hand of Carl at the helm!

I have had some very rude emails when asking, having given reason for
asking, for a look-up (usually to check if I need to shift attention to a
new area). On one list, a "discussion" about probates was deemed to be
off-subject and banned! Right...a genealogy discussion forum where probates
are "off topic": that possibly says a great deal about the knowledge - or
lack of it - of some <bg>

May 2007 bring you success in finding those ancestors who seemed to change
name, birthplace and age frequently...and of course always gave name of
somebody as "father" when they married...despite the so-named being anything
but...

We often remind ourselves that "the mother is the mother, and the father is
who the mother SAYS he is"; but just how many "mothers" were actually
granny - and how many grandfathers became "father" on marriage
registrations?! Or is this something peculiar to my various lines?

I trust Christmas was all you hoped it would be, and best wishes for 2007.

Jacqui
