Hi Ellen,
I was chasing up the Vernon 's Motto on the Internet when I spotted the
Heraldic bit......

"Vernon Semper Viret" - Vernon always flourishes ?

Fifty years ago I remember walking the "Field of Battle" just north of
Shrewsbury (1403) and the nearby Manor House at Shawbury that was burnt out in the
Civil War. Shrewsbury had several bridges across the River Severn and these
were closed to the Welsh after dark, just like the restrictions in force at
Chester.

Ricky (near Padgbury Lane - erstwhile Pad Bridge Lane - West Heath)
Doctus in se semper divitias habet - my old school motto.
