Dear Gail,

How are you??

I was wondering if I am a direct descendant of Joshua.

Regards
Shane

Gordon

The photo looks to me very much like Joshua ARMITAGE (whom I have as
nicknamed as "Turk ARMITAGE"), born 3 October 1860 died 4 January 1943.
This is comparing it to the photo taken in 1916 before the funeral of Thomas
DODD as illustrated in Hoylake & Meols Past by Stephen Roberts.

Joshua being the son of William ARMITAGE (1837-1910) and Elizabeth JONES of
Buckby, Flint (1837-1913).

By the way, have you checked your junk email today? Also, I will pack my PC
away in 3 days ;-(

Gail

Further to my last post there would appear to be only three candidates :-

John BIRD (1857-1890)
Samuel (Joshua) ARMITAGE (1890-1894)
Thomas DODD (1894-1916)

Incidentally, you can get some idea of what the painting looks like at :-
