Jean,

I think the bran sifted from flour sounds like the sort of stuff that would
be useful in Sydney in 1854. Someone also suggested it would be mixed with
molasses to feed to the animals.

So far no-one has any suggestions for a cuckholde being of use in a brick
Works.
