Hello again.

Many thanks to all who replied about my query on WW1 pension records. A couple of people suggested that he may not have been eligible for a pension if he wasn't injured in the war. On my grandfathers birth certificate, his father is listed as Thomas Turner and for occupation he is listed as Potters Mill Labourer and Army Pensioner. Does this mean that he would have a pension record?

I am fairly confident that the Thomas Turner I found on Ancestry who enlisted in 1909 is the man that I'm after, but hopefully I can confirm this when I take a trip to the National Archives on Monday.

Thanks again too all who offered suggestions and advice.

Much appreciated.
Colleen

Hi,

I have been searching for my great grandfathers pension records on Ancestry. I know that he served in WW1 and then in Aghanistan in 1919. I know his rank and his regiment number as we have his medals. On Ancestry I have come across a record for a Thomas Turner who enlisted in 1909. This Thomas is around the same age as my great grandfather and is from the correct place. However, his regiment number is different.

The Thomas I have come across signed up for 4 years service, which would have ended in 1913. Would he have been given a different regiment number when he served in WW1? Would the Thomas I have come across even served in WW1 as he already did 4 years service?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Colleen
