Entries made in the registers would be the original work of the vicar
etc but he would not own the copyright because they were created in
the course of his employment. So I can see that the C of E would own
the copyright of any books - but not necessarily of images made of
them because that is a separate creative work.

The Church of Scotland owns the church over the road from me but not
of any snaps I take.
