Tried this through Cheshire East - where I live. I can get to the Wills
database quite happily.
Just a warning though - don't get too eager and take the next steps and
delete your other Cheshire bookmarks yet. The tithe maps still works on its
old URL - it sensibly just comes up with a partnership logo at the top for
both Cheshire East and Cheshire West (which I refuse to call "Cheshire West
and Chester" - where do they think Chester is? <grin>). The online
directories still come up on their old URL - even branded with Cheshire
County Council! The Railway Staff database only seems to work on its old
URL. (I haven't tried Cheshire West)
No doubt things will eventually get sorted a bit at a time...
Adrian

Subject: [CHS] Cheshire Wills Database
Following the recent local government re-organisation in Cheshire, the
Cheshire wills database is now available at
http://apps.cheshirewestandchester.gov.uk/RecordOfficeWillEpayments/search.a
spx
and at
http://www.cheshireeast.gov.uk/leisure_and_culture/record_office/catalogues_
and_indexes/wills_database.aspx?
They have been available since 1 April, but understandably people have been
going to the old cheshire.gov.uk URL, which is no longer working and will in
due course be taken offline.
The above information is from Paul Newman at the Cheshire Record Office.
Carl.
