I’ve come across an excellent book "Salt in Cheshire" by Albert F.
Calvert published in 1915. It’s available as a PDF download from
http://www.archive.org/details/cu31924030692697 with no copyright
restrictions.

Whilst there is no index other than the Contents Headings, subjects
are easily identified through chapter headings.

Listers with relatives involved in the industry and the transport of
salt in the late 1800's will find the chapters on Salt Associations
and The Salt Union to be particularly informative.Lots of familiar
names appear!

My Alcock ancestors were Watermen with Salt interests in Winsford & Northwich.
