Subject: [CHS] SAWBERRY - suicide in 1907
Date: Thu, 10 Jun 2010 23:43:53 -0400
I thought that my gr-gr-grandfather Samuel Sawberry had died in New
York State in 1907, but could never find a death record, tombstone or
obit. I was very surprised to find via Ancestry.com that he had died
in Stockport, where he was born, even though his wife stayed in New
York until she died 10 years later . I was really surprised when I
ordered the death certificate from the GRO to find that he had
committed suicide on June 8, 1907 by drowning himself in the Peak
Forest Canal at Marple.
I am wondering if there might've been a local newspaper article on the
suicide. Can anyone steer me to a local newspaper archives?
Also, for occupation, the death record lists " Insurance Agent of 313
Queen Street, Rose Brow Compstall" I find a 313 Queen Street in
Marple, and a Queen Street in Stockport, but not in Compstall. I find
a "Red Brow" in Compstall, is this the same as "Rose Brow"? Would this
have been his residence, or is it the business address?
