Not quite sure what you are saying here. FreeBMD, as stated on their
website, are transcribing the GRO Index from 1837 to 1983. The index is
certainly not free from errors but it is not the policy of FreeBMD to
correct errors for reasons given on the website.

CheshireBMD is originally transcribed from the Register Offices' Indexes,
the big and important difference being that the transcriptions were then in
most if not all cases checked against the original register. Errors in the
Index were corrected for the benefit of all, including the registry office
staff. They are thus likely to be more accurate than FreeBMD.

I work on both projects and would be interested to look at the 1946 Runcorn
error if you would like to send me the full details of both versions
offlist.

Subject: [CHS] BMD problems

Hello listers,

I am having problems with the various BMD lists For example:

A 1946 Runcorn registration being under Co. Durham.

Births (with mother's maiden name) being on the Ancestry BMD indexes, but
not on the FreeBMD or the CheshireBMD. I realise that there have been issues

about Warrington registrations and the Cheshire BMD site, but would
welcome comments about the differences between Ancestry's version and
FreeBMD.

Regards,
Bob Mather.
