Subject: [CHS] Request for help finding pre 1830 marriage Macclesfield
Date: Mon, 8 Nov 2010 08:01:48 +1000
Greetings,
Rather frustratingly, I find that online pre Civil Registration records for
Cheshire are few and far between, which, living in far north Queensland,
and, being unable to get to an accessible Family History Centre (mine is up
two flights of stairs which I am unable to climb), I am wondering
if SKS can help me find a marriage that I need to enable me to progress
with my research
JAMES PICKFORD & MARY ROBERTS....probably in Macclesfield pre 1830
Mary Roberts was born (in Liverpool) in 1812 so James was probably born
between between 1805 & 1810. I am assuming that he was born and bred
in Macclesfield, but do not know this for sure. To enable me to ascertain
this and to verify what I believe to have been his baptism as found on the
IGI in 1807 I need his father's name, which is why this marriage
certificate is so important to me. There is at least one other James
Pickford born within this time frame, but as the one in 1807 had a father
named Benjamin, and James first son was baptised Benjamin, I am thinking
that this is the most likely one. James had died before 1841 so does not
appear in that census.
The marriage certificates (two to different wives) of Benjamin, both state
that James Pickford was a Silk Winder.
The two known children of James and Mary Pickford - Benjamin & John were
both baptised into the Brunswick Wesleyan, Sutton By Macclesfield chapel in
1837 at the ages of 7 and 5 respectively. I do not know if the parents were
non-conformists before this date.
Any help or suggestions as to where I can look next would be most
appreciated. Thanking you, Diana
