<<snipped>> I keep getting a message advising me that I am already logged
in elsewhere

Certainly at one time, the systems got themselves in a knot for me if I had
previously logged in on Ancestry.com, never logged out, then tried to access
Ancestry.co.uk. (I never log out of 'co.uk).
So, by habit if I do now log into one of the non-co.uk sites (usually
because it's easier finding Canadian collections from the Canadian site,
say) then I log out again after. But whether I still need to I'm not sure.
Possibly not, given I've got into the other one while still logged into the
.uk site.
NB - when I say log out, I mean use the "log out" option, not just leave the
site.
