The Oxford English Dictionary also gives the 5th as Twelfth Night. It is the evening before Epiphany rather than the night of Epiphany. This website explains: http://projectbritain.com/Xmas/twelfthnight/index.html
Happy New Year,

Hi again
My Brewer's Dictionary of Phrase and Fable gives TwelfthNight as January
5th but Jan 6th as Twelfth Day. Likewise to Michael we have always taken
it to be Epiphany so now I'm never sure when the 'witches are waiting to
pounce' !! Who is right ?
Happy New Year
