Thank you very much, but I have The Chisz!
A family member bought it a while back.
I couldn't connect with it when I first dug into it a couple years ago,
but now I must take a second look.
I took advice of a Chism on this List and called the author of The Chisz.
He is the one who thinks it is possible that my ancestor is the same as
his and just fibbed about his background and ran off from Tenn. to
Illinois in the late 1840s!
I don't know anything about proving anything like that! For a start, I
just thought I would ask those on the list who might come from that line
what they know....someone that John D. Chism who wrote The Chisz doesn't
know about. (and he is trying to find out about this also)
I found my Jesse Chism (I think it was him) in Overton Co., Tenn. in the
1840s working as a field hand for Mounce Gore, who happens to be one of
Al Gore's ancestors.
Then someone told me that the Gores, like many of the Chisms & esp. Blind
John's people, came from South Carolina. So maybe I need to follow the
Gores! (HaHa!)....This Mounce may have given a job to
another S. Carolinian in trouble. Just a theory.
Thanks again, Antoinette. Let me know if you uncover anything.
