Just in case anyone's interested, the archivist at the Church of England (c-of-e.org.uk) found both of
them in Crockford's for me, along with another two sons who it seems also went into the Church.

Subject: [CH-UK] Help with two KIRKHAMs
I have a father and son that I'm trying to find out more about.
What I know so far is :
Thomas KIRKHAM, listed on 1881 census as "vicar of St Pauls, Manningham (York), aged 46.
I emailed St Pauls and they told me that all they know is "that he was vicar from 1881 to 1895 and was an MA Canterbury".
The Archivist at Canterbury Cathedral told me that it's very unlikely that he was an MA Canterbury. They thought that it could be a misreading of "MA Cantab", meaning Cambridge, but they didn't find him listed in the alumni. The other possibility they mentioned is Canterbury St Augustine's.
The second KIRKHAM is his son, Philip Harry KIRKHAM, aged 5 on the 1881 census, who I understand went on to be vicar at Beetham, Westmorland, but about whom I know little else. I'm waiting for information from the Archivist at Beetham.
The archivist at Canterbury mentioned Crockfords Clerical Directory as another possible source - is this something I can get access to from here in Canada, or could SKS look my two clergymen up for me ?
Any help very much appreciated,
Chris Brand
