My ancestors were in Lexington until 1863. Then, sometime during 1864 they moved
the family to Johnson County, Kansas (Gardner Township). We know this because my
great grandparents were married in Richmond, across the river from Lexington, 24
Dec 1863. My great grandfather stayed in Missouri and fought in the Civil War
(Union). She and her family moved to Johnson County, KS and my grandfather was
born Oct. 1864 in Johnson County. Her sister and husband were living there at the
time. I suspect Lexington was just too violent a place to be in at that period.
