Well Bill, I have something very interesting to tell you from this
naturalization for Grainger
11/2/1866. Many of the Fenians who were arrested in the original dragnet in
Ireland 2/17/66 on suspension of habeas corpus. had a hard time proving they
were American citizens. They hadn't bothered with the paperwork during the
Civil War. When they did come back to the states. the Fenian vets took the
time out to get naturalized. I know this. I have seen Colonel Michael
Kerwin's paperwork in 1866 after he was released. So there is no doubt in my
mind that Grainger had thoughts of returning for the second 1867 trip and
that the John o'Mahoney who witnessed this was the Fenian. Notice Grainger
gave his occupation as soldier..
