I believe that Lincoln was already a veteran of the so called Black Hawk
war. I understand that in the south you could "dodge the draft" if you
owned a certain amount of slaves and couldn't southerners pay subs too, a
fellow told me his ggrandfather paid for a sub to the confederate
government.
