Subject: [CIVIL-WAR] Soldier Research
> Hello List,
>
> As the NC Division Genealogist for the Sons of Confederate Veterans, I
have information on most soldiers who served from the State of North
Carolina. My primary source of information are the volumes of North
Carolina Troops 1861-1865 A Roster. The records in these books began being
compiled in the 1960's and to date, there are only 14 volumes which go up
through the 61st Regiment. Hopefully, one day before I'm gone, the volumes
on the regiments past the 61st will be completed. The information in these
volumes has been taken from War Service Records, Pension Files, and other
sources. I also have other databases with basic information on all other
Confederate soldiers.

> If I can be of help to anyone, please send me the soldier's name and any
other information you may have, such as where he lived. I get requests
from many people wanting information and the more you can give me on the
soldier, the faster I can locate information and email it back to you.
Please remember the detailed nformation I have is on soldiers from North
Carolina.

> If by chance you don't know how to research back to find the names of
ancestors, I'll be glad to give you some tips to help you, without berating
you for not knowing how to do it. That's what we are here for, to help
each other if we can, and not to berate or belittle someone because they
don't know how to trace back to find their ancestors. Those kind of antics
don't belong on this list.

> I have also noticed many people refer others to the National Archives to
get Service Records on soldiers. If you soldier is Confederate, you can
get his War Service Record from the National Archives, but if you also want
his Pension Record, you must get it through the State Archives from the
State where the pension was filed for. With the increased pricing of the
National Archives and the lengthy time involved to get records from them, I
have found another source which is much faster, and the quality of the
copies are much better. This other source can get you the War Service
Record and Pension file from one place. This other source I mention is
Broadfoot Publishing Company from Wilmington, NC. I have personally used
their services and have found them to be highly professional and more than
willing to give you the help you need. Also, I want to make it clear I
have no personal interest in Broadfoot; it's just a better place to get the
records, so that is why I re!
> commend them. If you are interested in this other source, you can find
their website at http://www.soldiersearch.com/index.html
