Hi Y'all,
The ironclads that were used during the War were certainly formidable ships.
They surely changed tactics in naval warfare and the way ships were built.
The 1/3 scale reproduction of the Albemarle in Plymouth is such a wonderful
sight to see going up and down the Roanoke River, but I wanted to let y'all
know of a full sized ironclad being built about 35 miles from me. The full
sized reproduction under construction is the Ram Neuse II. What's left of
the hull of the original Ram Neuse is located at a museum in Kinston, North
Carolina. If anyone is interested in seeing more about the full sized
reproduction being built, you can find pictures and information at
http://www.cssneuseii.com/ The Neuse II is being built exactly like the
original was, and I've got to say, it's one monster of a ship. Just seeing
it in person can only make you wonder just how huge the bigger ironclads
were, and Lord only knows how they even stayed afloat!
Just thought I'd share this site on the Neuse II in case anyone might be
interested.
Edward
