As a member of the Cavers family (albeit in Nottingham, and through my
mother, Hilda Smith nee Cavers) I'm the only one 'doing' the family history
in my generation, I've visited Cavers Old Kirk, and was overwhelmed at the
feelings of 'being home' never encountered before.
Cavers as a family name is a sept of the Douglas's, and, my ancestors
probably came from Kirkton and Roberton, but I still feel our ancestors
souls should remain in peace. (I've never felt so strongly about any other
of my family lines, but those from Cavers Magna, or Parva)
Any of you who puzzle what I'm so emphatic about, I employ you to go visit,
you'll know then.
My thanks to Jean Muir for her book on Cavers Parish, it 'made' me want to
visit.
I'm very remote from my Scottish ancestors, as the Cavers name in Nottingham
started with Walter b. abt 1795 in Kirkton, marrying a Scottish lass (Jane
Martin) in Nottingham 1824.

> Cavers Estate in Cavers Scotland the property has been sold, the new
people Mr & Mrs Bennet have put in a application to the planning board to
have the Church and graveyard turned int a private house!!! In the
Church is a Douglas vault, in the graveyard are many Douglas graves.
The meeting with deadline for objections has been changed to ---- Tues 11
March 03. ------ This woman has offered to pass on any emails to
this board, before the deadline. Jean Muir -
Also - Paul Allison who lives
on the Estate is appalled , and say`s it is not Christen to disturb
these graves. He say`s the planning board is totally disregarding
the history of this "Special Place"------. --------
Please take a minute and send an email - before Tues 11 March 03,
it would be terrible to lose all this history!!!!!
