Dear Clan Duncan Subscribers:

I am not the Admin for this list, nor do I know who the Admin is. However, I do admin many lists at Rootsweb, including Clan lists, so I shall speak from that experience, in response to the question of whether this list is active or not.

A list is only as active as the subscribers make it. If you want to receive mail, you must send mail. On topic, of course. And for the Clans lists -- John Hansen originally set them up to support the dissemination of information, etc. for the Clans. They support the clan organizations and are here for those born to the clans. They are not general genealogy lists, but rather exist to support topics not generally covered on the surname lists. Genealogy targeted to the active time of the clan system in Scotland is on topic.... til about 1747 in the area that the clans were active -- Scotland, Ireland and a bit of European traveling. The Clans lists were not intended to duplicate the Surname lists.

Do you know what the Clan History is? If so, post a bit of it. Do you know what the Clan Motto or War Cry is? If so, post it. Does the clan have "septs" or associated families? If you know, post the names. Where were the clan's strongholds? Are there castles? Where? Does the organization that supports the fellowship activities of the clan have a web site? If so -- what is the URL? Who and where is your Chief? Or is there one? Is there a clan or family tartan? How many are there? What are they like?...... so many more bits and pieces of information that all of you could hunt for and post to share with others of your clan.

Rather than post asking if the list is active.... how about posting something that will activate it... get the discussion going?

Yours Aye,
