My ggreat grandfather, Silas DUNCAN (d. 1872 Pine River, Waushara, WI)

http://www.pcez.com/~bigshoe/du/Dunc/dungen.html

was born as Silas PARRISH 15 Aug. 1818 Bar...ill, (prob. Oneida), NY. His father was probably Azariah PARRISH aka PARISH (1799/00-1854/60). Azariah was an associate of the Strangist Mormon founder, James J. STRANG; and brother of Warren F. PARRISH aka PARISH (1802-1887), an early associate of Joseph SMITH. Silas' mother was probably a NATIVE AMERICAN woman named Polly, as per the following obit:
>From the Utica Intellegencer, (Utica, Oneida, NY):.

"Dated August 29, 1826... On the 23rd., Polly, consort of Mr. Azariah PARISH, aged 27. [b. 1798/99]..."

Our family tradition is that when Silas and his brother William were still children, their mother died and they were adopted by a "Captain DUNCAN".

I do not know who this "Captain DUNCAN" was, but he may have been the son of "T. DUNKIN" (11010 - 10010), listed in the 1810 Oneida Co. census, as per:

"1919 "History of Fresno County, California : with biographical sketches of the leading men and women of the county who have been identified with its growth and development from the early days to the present" by Paul E. Vandor, pub. by Historic Record (book qc979.482 V2, Vol.I; CA State Library, Sacramento; also FHL book 979.482 H2v and film 1,000,104 items 2-3 and Vol.2 on FHL film 1,036,806 item 1)

"Vol.II, Pg.1806: DUNCAN, William. grandfather was Thomas, b. Scotland, to NY. Father was William, b. Utica [Oneida Co.]; to Ontario; to Lonark, IL, 1866; then Albany, Whiteside Co., same state. Mother Elizabeth Burton Williscraft, b. England, d. Iowa. 8 ch., 5 still living. William was youngest, b. 13 June 1857 Smith's Falls, Ontario. (MAD: ? Lanark, Carroll Co. IL)"

m. (3): Anna Melissa (FORBES, JAMES) NELSON

Child:

1. Silas DUNCAN Jr. (1866 WI-AFT 1880 WI)

Henry and (James) Eugene were given to farm families as children, when their mother Rosetta died, though they were not formally adopted. When he was 14, Eugene left the family he was staying with and set off to find his father. He and his brother Charles later married their two step-sisters (daughters of Anna), who were living with Silas at the time. Silas performed Eugene's wedding. Henry and Eugene served together at Shiloh, giving distinguished service with Co. A, 16th Wisconsin Infantry. Charles Lee DUNCAN served with Co. E, 4th Wisconsin Cavalry.

I would be happy to share info with anyone who thinks they might be connected with this family.
