I am researching a Civil War hero, Major Joshua G. Palmer, of the 66th
Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He was born in New York State about 1829, and
moved to Urbana, Ohio. He was a dentist. In 1860, he lived with a
merchant family named Brown in Urbana. He entered the Civil War in 1861.
He was captured and paroled. He was wounded at Culp's Hill at the
battle of Gettysburg on July 2,1863. He died on July 10,1863. His
remains were sent to Urbana and on July 29,1863, they were sent to an
unknown location in New York State. According to the URBANA UNION, there
was a militry band and a large crowd of friends to see him off.
My problem is that I am unable to find any record of him in New York
State. He may have had a wife who came from the Urbana area and died
shortly before the end of the war. They had no children. But this comes
from great-great-great nephew, who is not too sure of the facts. I am
looking for any link to his whereabouts in New York. I would greatly
appreciate any information.
Thank you.
