I also have a Baker family coming out of Clark County and have tried to research
them. I can help a little and hope someone might be able to help me with my
problem.

First my problem: My great-grandfather was Solomon Baker (1821-1871), born in Ohio
and died in IL, married Mary Ann Kizer. I found him in German Township, Clark
County, Ohio in the 1850 federal census in two households:
1. The household of Henry and Elizabeth Baker (age 64 and 58) both from Virginia,
along with Reuben (30), Solomon (28), Valentine (22) and Susan (6mo.) All the
younger members of the household were from Ohio.
2. The household of Adam and Lucy Haroff (age 30 and 25 )of PA and Ohio along with
two young children, Sarah Baker (24), Solomon Baker (28) and Valentine Baker (22).

My theory is that Henry and Elizabeth were Solomon's parents and that Reuben,
Valentine and Lucy were his siblings. Earlier censuses suggest that there was
likely one older sister as well. I think possibly that this family is descended from
Philip and Catherine Baker of Shenandoah County, VA (see below) but cannot even
prove that Solomon is the son of Henry and Elizabeth.

Can anyone shed light on Solomon's ancestry? Since Henry Baker was 64 years of age
in 1850, he was born in about 1786. Does anyone know of a Henry Baker born at that
time in Virginia and married to an Elizabeth?

Now the information I can share. First and foremost, I have not verified any of
this data. Much of it comes from "Early Clark County, Ohio Families Vital
Statistics," a set of volumes that I found at the Daughters of the American
Revolution library in Wash., D.C. I have typed it quickly into this e-mail and I
will not promise that it is error-free.
