Hello, Marilyn,
I just recently started researching this line, and I don't have information
on Cornelius's sons other than William Clark that left RI, married in CT, and
moved to Clarks Summit, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania. I have a good friend
just south of Lackawanna that is going to try and do some research for me when
she has time. Maybe Clarks Summit has some more information about the Clark
history.

This is what I have:
1. William CLARK, b. 25 Dec 1757 in Newport, Newport County, Rhode Island,
d. 11 Jun 1827 in Clarks Summit, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, resided
BEFORE 1792 in Connecticut, occupation Deacon, military Revolutionary War veteran.
>From a Picture Postcard History of Lackawanna County, Pa, 1997, Monument in
Clarks Green: "1757-1827, This tablet erected to the memory of Deacon William
Clark, born in Rhode Island 1757, who served his country under Gen. Gray at the
Battle of Bunker Hill. First settler north of these mountains. Came to this
place from Connecticut 1792. Died at this place bearing his name 1827."

From Name Origins of Northwest PA Towns: "In 1799, Deacon William Clark
cleared a triangular piece of land at the now-familiar summit. The cleared
parcel was referred to as a 'green,' hence Clarks Summit and Clarks Green."

From Clark's Summit History site: "Following the War, Congress had little
or no money. To pay the "American" soldiers, land was given to them to
settle. One of these first settler/soldiers was William Clarks, who fought at the
Battle of Bunker Hill and was with Washington at the Battle of Tenton. He was
given 800 acres of land in Pennsylvania and was one of the first settlers to
come to "Ebington", as it was then known.
The parcel granted to William Clark was part of the land in dispute
and when he went to verify his deed at the land grant office in Luzerne
County, he was told that his claim was worthless, and if he wished to settle on the
land he would have to pay for it.
Historical records have William Clark and his three sons arriving in
the Abington wilderness around the middle of March, 1799. William Clark built
his log cabin on the hill where the Clarks Green Cemetery is now located.
Early settlers faced many obststacles in their efforts to gain a
foothold in what were mostly hostile surrounding. At that time the Abingtons as
we know it today was part of Tunkhannock Township, an area covering 41 square
miles. The main industry was farming. Confounding their efforts, was the need
to fight a constant battle against wolves. A serious, persistent threat
menacing human life and livestock."
