Can anyone help me find the route by which my Clayton ancestors migrated
to Montgomery, Saratoga and Warren Counties, NY?
Apparently "Farmer" Clayton and Mehitable Miller (dau of John) were
raised and married ~1805 in Windham County, VT.
How did the families arrive in Vermont? I believe that "Farmer's"
parents were John and Sarah Watkins Clayton. John reputedly fought at
Bennington (Aug 15,1777) during a 165 day enlistment.
The vast majority of Claytons today appear to live in the south. I have
found no genealogist who is actively persuing the northern branches of
the family.
