I have been trying to trace the ancestry of Susannah Clayton, who
married John Young in Newport, RI, 29 Mar 1759. They eventually moved
through Western Mass. and settled in Easton, Washington Co., NY. At
least Susannah did. She was probably born in the 1720's or 1730's. I
have had difficulty in finding any information on her parents. Also,
Ihave had little luck finding any information on Claytons in New
England.

Recently, I found the following from a Website that might offer a clue
to some New England Claytons with whom possible she is related?

I found reference to a Richard Cleayton and Ann Askew who probably came
from Swarthmore, Lancashire, England sometime in the 1660s. His
children came at least. Some of his children stayed in New England
while others moved to Monmouth Co., NJ soon thereafter.

The children were:
Edmund Cleayton , d. 1657 in England
Richard Cleayton, b. 1625, he and 2 sons appears to have gone to NJ, one
daughter appears to have stayed in RI and married.
Ann Cleayton. b. 1627, stayed in RI and married.
Thomas Cleayton, b. 1629. died, after 1650 near Dover, New Hampshire.
John Cleayton, b. 1630, moved to Burlington, NJ. He had 4 wives. Of
his children, it seemed some (males) went to NJ, while at least 1 female
stayed in RI and married.

It seems that the only male that I could see that stayed in New England
what Thomas.

Does anyone know anything about this family or who Susannah Clayton
belongs to or other Clayton families in New England at the time?

Thanks,

Joe
