Cathryn, this is what one reader just sent me yesterday:

>Hi James i just received your book. I love it. I am having a hard time

>pins was bent when Michael plugged it in.
>I can run down to radio shack and get a new one but can't leave the book

>I will get back to you later have to read some more. I will order more
<for family when I get funds. It will make a wonderful birthday present

The above was very flattering as this was my first book and I was trying to
make a research tool out of it as well as document my findings and
ancestry. It starts with Hepburn's tracing of the 1st Clayton down to the
Va branch and Atty Gen John Clayton. Listed are all of the descendants of
Atty Gen John Clayton down to myself and all others that I could tie in or
identify. (over 500 Claytons). The research centers around Culpeper
(Fairfax), VA and on to SE Ohio on my direct line. I am hoping that it will
stimulate other researchers to further the collection of data on the VA
Clayton Branch. Outside of bits and pieces I have found very little serious
work on them.
now on to your other question;
Atty Gen Clayton had a son named John Clayton known as the botanist. This
John had a son named John Whiting Clayton b: 1724 who married Elizabeth
Willis and they had 15 children 5 of who I have descendants for and 10 that
I have not connected to any descendancy. Among these latter are brothers
Daniel b: abt 1756, William Willis b: abt 1758, Charles b: abt 1759,
Stephen b: abt 1762, Jessee b: abt 1763, Henry b: 1765. I would love to
tie spouses and family. In time perhaps. The above Jessee's grandfather was
born in England and died in Glouster, VA but I do not know if he had a
spouse yet. I have never picked up an Anne Carter yet in my searchings. The
above brothers would be of age to have been involved in the Rev. War and
could have scattered or died. I have found one Philip in the Carolinas but
have not tied him to family yet, as I havent had time to work on him. There
are 14 Philips that I have in the book and most of them tied together as
well as I could identify. It sure is looking like you are tied to one of
the above brothers, William or Jesse, from what you are finding out. If you
can connect any of the above brothers to spouses please let me know. Thanks
James Clayton
