I published a two volume set on the Descendants of George Clayton (1723-1786)
a few years ago.
I have lots of additions and corrections, so I am working on a revised edition
of Volume I.
George Clayton was born probably in VA; he married Sarah (last name may have
been Dodson, or Dotson, or Lambert). They were in Mecklenburg Co., NC in the
1760's; in Rowan County, NC at the time of George's death; and when Sarah died
her will was probated in Iredell Co., NC.
There were two sons: George Clayton, 1750-1814; and Lambert Clayton 1755-1828.
The daughters were: Henrietta Clayton married Alexander Davidson (they went to
TN)
Rebecca Clayton married Robert Oliphant; Rachel Clayton married John Falls;
Margaret Clayton married Robert Neill; Anna Clayton married Thomas Cooke; and
Hannah Clayton married James Neill. Many of George Clayton's descendants
lived in Buncombe Co., NC and Lambert Clayton's in Transylvania County, NC or
surrounding counties.
I would like to hear from anyone who is descended from this family.
