Subject: [CLAYTON] Lambert Clayton and Sarah Davidson
Date: Sat, 9 Jan 1999 21:57:50 EST
I published "The Clayton Clique, The Descendants of George Clayton, 1723-1786"
in 1995. I am currently revising Vol. I, having sold all the copies that I
had made. There are two volumes of my work, I have not started revising Vol.
II.
Lambert Clayton is a son of George Clayton.
The Maxwell, et. al., 1927 is fine as far as it goes; however, it is very
limited and does contain some errors.
There is no proof of the parents of Sarah Davidson. John Davidson and Nancy
Brevard have a Marriage Bond in Rowan County, NC 1779 when Sarah was already
20 years old. They probably were the ones who were killed by the Indians in
1782, with a six month old infant.
There are numerous Davidson families in central North Carolina at the time of
the Revolution, but Sarah does not fit into any of them. There is a Sarah
Davidson who signed a South Carolina deed that I am currently trying to
identify.
None of the other stories regarding her family have been traced or proven.
They range from parents killed in 1760; 1775 or 1776 all by the Indians.
My guess is that her parents died young (for whatever reason); and she was
raised by relatives (maybe John Brevard and his wife Jean, who were perhaps
her aunt and uncle and not her grandparents). Nancy Brevard seems to be even
younger than Sarah. Also none of the Brevard children appear to have been old
enough to have raised her, as the stories goes; Jane Brevard being even
younger than Sarah, although she is often given as the aunt who raised Sarah.
There are other Brevard families in North Carolina also which I have not
researched.
I would like to hear from anyone who is a descendant of George Clayton
1723-1786 of Rowan County, NC (now Iredell Co.)
