Does anyone have a Henry Clayton? Fought in the Revolutionary War in
something called the "Flying Camp." Think he was originally from Maryland.
>From there the family went to Ohio. Think, if I can remember correctly the
line from him is Joseph, then John Fletcher Clayton (my great-great
grandfather). He Left Ohio and went to Missouri, where he was supposedly both
a Dr. and a circuit riding Methodist minister. His first wife was Aria
Winegardner and second was Louisa, who was many years younger than him. In
fact think his youngest son Chauncy was younger than my grandmother who was
his oldest grandchild. He died in I think 1910 and is buried in Howard's
Ridge Missouri. He was a charter member of the town of Wheatland, and think
that he might have even owned a hotel there. I know that he had a son who
was a dentist. His son John Charles married Mary Jane (Molly) Vest, the
daughter of Jackson and Nancy Vest. John Charles was murdered in some sort
of fracas with a Mr. Allen in the town of Wheatland when my grandmother Aria
Clayton was about eighteen months old. Aria married Fred Florance. Think
she had a sister named Addie as well as an aunt by the name of Addie Clayton.
