Dear List Members,

I am trying to find information on Elizabeth Frances Clayton.

From my research, I have found the following;
She was born in Lawrence County, Tennessee in 1827. Her Parents were John William "Flat River" Clayton and Nancey Blackard, both of whom were born in North Carolina.

Prior to 1870, she was apparently still living in Lawrence Co., TN.
At some point she had married William Ferdinand Joyce (b. 1831) in Lawrence Co., TN.
They married 14 Jan 1852 in Lawrence Co TN.

However, and this is where things get interesting, she moves to Saline Co., Ill.
BUT, she retains with the Clayton name and the husband is completely out of the picture.

She was listed in the 1870 census (for Saline Co., Ill.) as a Clayton, and so were her 3 children.

"Elizabeth was listed as 55, keeping house and an illiterate Tennessee native. Her household include Alexander, 23, at home; James R., 22, at home; and Thomas, 16; at home, as well as a domestic servant named Mary Carr, 18, an Illinois native. All of the boys were Tennessee natives and Thomas had also attended school within the previous year."

Also, I have no reason for her traveling to Saline Co., Ill..

In any event, at this point, I'd like to know all that anyone has on this family,
but more especially ... when she died and where she is buried.

Thanks,
Randall Hughes
Summertown, TN.
