There is a Herring Road in the Black Forest area, north of Colorado Springs. The street was named for the Hering family, who's homestead was nearby, (this is just up the road from my home). The Hering log cabin stood until about ten years ago. The family name was, in fact, Hering, with one r, not two. El Paso County, however, used 2 r's when naming the street. Is there a possible connection to your research?
