I'm not sure if Charles, himself was catholic, but I know his wife, Reyes
Cortez, was. I also know that they were married in the catholic church at
Taos in 1852. The priest there noted his name as Carlos Nuton instead of
Charles Newton. Was Alamosa a county yet in 1905 or does it matter?
