My HYDE family and DAY family came to Westmoreland County, PA to mine coal
from Northumberland, UK in the late 1880s. The DAY family had lived in the
Seaton Delaval area for several generations. The Hydes were from Gloucester
and then moved to Northumberland in the 1870s and then to PA in the 1880s.
They were COE but they intermarried with a variety of faiths and thus I
probably have relatives in almost every denomination! To this day, you can
find a church on every corner in many PA mine towns--many denominations that
had not been seen previously in the US were reestablished there in the
1800s.
