This was the School of Mining Under the NCB. then it was part of the
Polytechnic of Glamorgan, and now of course is part of the University of
Glamorgan.
When it first openned it was quite a revalation in that it brought science
to a often brutal industry, bringing the teaching of safety and well being
of miners to the fore.

There was - might be still there - a 'school' in Treforest which was
known as "The School of Mines".

I took a course there in 1957 but it was nothing to do with mining, it
was called "Mathematics for Computers". If any of you can remember
how basic the computers were in 1957 you can appreciate that the
'School of Mines' was at the very forefront of technology. I believe
it had developed over the years to teach a wide range of subjects all
of which were technical and had some link with mining
