I am seeking a lookup for my great grandfather Andrew Jackson FOSTER and his first wife Hannah ELY. I have summarized the information on them below:

1865 - Andrew J. Foster married Hannah ELY on 22 Jun 1865 in Altoona, Blair County, PA.
1866 - 1881 - 15 year time span when I have no idea where Andrew J. FOSTER and his wife Hannah ELY are living.
1882 - Joseph K. ELY's obituary says that his daughter Hannah is married to Mr. Andrew Foster and is living in Denver, Colorado."
1885 - Hannah ELY died in Denver, Colorado on 17 Sep 1885 and was buried in Gypsum Hill Cemetery in Salina, Slaine Co., Kansas on 20 Sep 1885.
1892 - Andrew J. FOSTER is listed in the city directory for Altoona, Blair County, PA

I have searched the 1870 and 1880 Census reports for Altoona and they aren't there. Hanna and her sister Flora are listed as living at home in Altoona in 1870 Census, but this is almost certainly bogus information because I have documentation showing that both of them were married in Altoona in 1865.

I have searched every city directory available for the city of Altoona, PA and Andrew is found only on the 1892 and 1893 directories.

I would appreciate any help from anyone having access to city directories of Denver in the 1865-1892 time frame. I know he was living there in the 1882-1885 time period.

Other posts on this message board have indicated that there is a 1876 City Directory of Denver and a 1885 Colorado state Census - those would be two great places to look for Andrew and Hannah.

If someone can search for an obituary for Hannah (ELY) FOSTER in Denver newspapers (17 Sep 1885) that would be wonderful.

I am interested in anything that you can find on them. I have no record of them having any children which seems unusual for a marriage that lasted 17 years.

1865
Andrew Jackson FOSTER married Hannah ELY on 22 Jun 1865, probably in Altoona, Blair Coounty, PA.

Altoona Tribune [Blair County, PA]
Saturday, 24 Jun 1865

MARRIED
On the 22nd inst., by Rev M. P. Doyle, Mr. ANDREW J. FOSTER, of McVeytown, Mifflin Co., to Miss HANNAH ELY, of this place.

1870
The 1870 Census indicates that his first wife, Hannah ELY, was living at home with her original family in Altoona, PA. She was 23 years old at that time. But I have marriage announcements from the Altoona Tribune in 1865 indicating that both Flora and Hannah were married in 1865, yet both are listed on the 1870 Census as living at home with their original family. So evidently, their father Joseph K. ELY gave their names to the Census taker as if they were both living at home, even though they were both already married.

1880 Census
I could not find Andrew J. FOSTER or his wife Hannah on the 1880 Census.

1882
His father-in-law's obituary in the Thursday, August 24, 1882 edition of the Altoona Tibune indicates the following about Andrew's wife Hannah ELY: "Another daughter is married to Mr. Andrew Foster and is living in Denver, Colorado."

1885
His first wife, Hannah ELY died in Denver, Colorado on 17 Sep 1885 and was buried in Gypsum Hill Cemetery in Salina, Saline Co., Kansas on 20 Sep 1885. The records at Gypsum Hill Cemetery indicate that she was buried in 1895, but I believe the correct year is 1885. The obituary of her husband, Andrew Jackson FOSTER, indicates that she died in Denver, Colorado, but was buried in Salina, Kansas.
