Message Board Post:

My grandfather's brother, Lewis James Richards, was the first postmaster at Richards, Colorado and remained there until his death in 1916. The town slowly faded away and was nearly deserted by 1938. I visited Baca County a year ago and found some information at the Library in Springfield, the county seat. The librarian was very helful and she might be able to locate a listing of a justice of the peace who would have served the Richards area. I can't locate the exact address of the library, but Springfield is not a large town and I think a letter addressed to Springfield Library, Resource Center, Springfield, CO 81073 would reach them. Their phone is: 719-523-6962 and it is open 10 to 5 weekdays, but closed during lunch. Good Luck. Ramona (Richards) Summers
